It was on March 13th 1991, that the dream of four visionaries was realised. Their far –sightedness and passion for education culminated in the opening of St. Anthony’s School, located at Giddapahar, Kurseong, overlooking Rohini valley. Initially, St. Anthony’s School had a modest student strength and a dedicated pioneering staff. The hurdles of difficult beginnings, which every institution has experienced, posed challenges which were taken up stoically. The seeds sown by the founding members and pioneering teachers have gradually germinated and developed into the institution of today. Having opened with three classes, the highest being class 5, the school in 2016 has sent up the first I.S.C. Batch. The ethos and guiding light have always been visible in the day to day running of our school. The motto “Ora et Labora” meaning “Pray and Work”, is the dynamo that drives St. Anthony’s School forward.
Children are admitted into class 3 and over the years are prepared for the I.C.S.E. /I.S.C. Examination. The opportunity to educate children is a rare privilege, bringing with it a huge responsibility to provide the best all-round education possible as we aim to prepare young people for happiness and success in their adult lives. At Anthony we take this responsibility extremely seriously. We care about the individual and pride ourselves in the warmth of a community in which all our pupils feel valued. Not only academic performance but more importantly, character formation and overall development to meet tomorrow’s demands are also inculcated. The Ex-Anthonians who have achieved their aims testify to the above rationale of St. Anthony’s School.
From the onset physical development was given its due priority. This led to our school participating in AHLIS Events. Daily house games are looked forward to by the students. The play-ground is where students enjoy themselves, happy memories are created, friendships are forged and leadership qualities are fostered. Co-curricular activities (like elocution, spell-bee, P.P.T., debating, quizzing, and art and craft) complement the curriculum, creating well balanced, skilled and confident citizens of tomorrow.
St. Anthony’s School has been a member of AHLIS and has dutifully hosted events and participated in Inter-School meets, chalked out by the Association of Heads of Listed ICSE Schools. Like the Roman god of doors, the two-faced Janus, looking forward and backward, St. Anthony’s School celebrated 25 years of imparting quality education. The school is proud and admired the students from the hilly region and the neighbouring states who glorified the event of silver jubilee through their participation. This fulfils the far-sighted vision of the founders. St. Anthony’s School stands ready to take on the next stage of the journey, the next 25 years culminating in the Golden Jubilee. In the words of America’s greatest poet, Robert Frost, St. Anthony’s School can declare: “I have promises to keep, And miles to go.”
